Service Description
Course: River Safety and Rescue / L3 Length: 1 Day Dates: July 19 Richmond VA Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm Price: $150 Class Size: 6 minimum - 12 maximum The River Safety and Rescue workshop is specifically designed for private boaters, outfitters, kayakers, pack rafters and other river users. River familiarity and water comfort are prerequisites so that we can jump right into safety and rescue skills. Emphasis is on identifying hazards, and an introduction to rescue for self and others. The River Safety and Rescue workshop is great for an experienced paddler looking to refresh core river safety skills, or for a novice paddler who wants to stay safe. This course should be a prerequisite to anyone boating on any river anywhere! The course addresses the river rescue needs of rafters, rowers, kayakers, pack rafters, canoeists and SUP paddlers. This course will take place in class I-II whitewater. The River Safety and Rescue course is 8 hours and is entirely outside with ample water time. Any time not in the water, will be on shore, and active. Students should prepare for outside air and water temperatures appropriately. This is a full day of dynamic and engaging curriculum. Students taking this course MUST meet the following general requirements: - American Canoe Association (ACA) Essential Eligibility Criteria Students completing this course will receive an American Canoe Association Level 3 River Safety and Rescue skills card. This is not a certification. Note: Once you have registered for a course, we’ll send you a confirmation email and a course details pack. Course details will include our liability waiver and release from, medical history form, course outline, packing list, meeting times and locations, and instructor contact information. Topics: - Risk assessment and management - Shallow water crossings - Swimming moving water - Entrapments and strainers - Throw bags - Medical considerations - Rope basics - Pinned boats What We Provide: - Course field guide and pen - Throw bags to practice with - Rescue hardware to practice with Packing List: - River clothing, appropriate layers, closed toe shoes - Drysuit or wetsuit is recommended for cold water. - Neoprene gloves and booties recommended for cold water - Helmet - PFD / life jacket - Water bottle and snacks - Self care items - Dry clothes - Folding chair - Personal paddling equipment (boat, skirt, paddle, etc.) optional
Cancellation Policy
We appreciate your interest in working with Fall Line River School! By accepting this you are entering a contractual relationship for training between you/your organization and Fall Line River School. Payment is due upon registration for the course. Unless other arrangements have been made. Cancellation/Reschedule Policy: Any cancellation/reschedule must be received in writing to falllineriverschool@gmail.com. More than 30 days before the first day of your course: If you reschedule you will get a 100% credit. If you cancel we will give you a 95% refund. Between 30-14 days before the first day of your course: If you reschedule you will get a 50% credit. If you cancel we will give you a 45% refund. If you cancel less than 14 days before the first day of your course, no rescheduling, no refunds. Please note: We can no longer extend any kind of credit or refund due to medical or other last minute emergencies. You are, however, welcome to substitute someone else in your place. Thank you for your understanding. Cancellation/Reschedule by Fall Line River School: Courses take place rain or shine. If a course has to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control (i.e., extreme weather) then we give you a spot on another date and location of the same course, or a full credit to use towards any of our other courses. Fall Line River School is not responsible for expenses incurred by students in preparing for a cancelled course (for example non-refundable advance purchase plane tickets, equipment etc. or for any additional arrangements for other travel plans associated with this course).
