Service Description
Wilderness First Responder + CPR / AED Course Length: 8 Consecutive days [only first day shows on checkout] Dates: March 8-15 Richmond VA Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm each day Price: $750 Class Size: 6 minimum - 12 maximum The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR/AED course is the standard level of medical training for outdoor industry professionals, expedition leadership, multi-day guides, remote first responders, and those working in disaster relief. WFR is a comprehensive and practical curriculum that has gained popularity among leaders, guides, instructors, and athletes who push their boundaries in remote areas with limited resources, unreliable communication, and the potential for delayed or self rescue. Course participants will develop strong patient assessment skills, adopt treatment tools to stabilize life-threatening conditions, and learn how to provide extended patient care in austere environments. Most importantly, this training will prepare individuals to prevent many environmental illnesses and proactively manage pre-existing conditions in the field. Individuals will also develop the confidence to professionally manage a rescue in the event of a backcountry emergency requiring evacuation. The WFR course is 80 hours and primary outside. We emphasize scenarios, mock rescues, night operations, and hands-on practice during the course. Hands-on practice is crucial for skill retention and building confidence. Expect a valuable and engaging learning experience! We prioritize hands-on scenarios and practice, so wear clothes that can get dirty and come prepared to actively participate. Students completing the course will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification from Sierra Rescue International and an OSHA-approved CPR/AED certification from American CPR Training. Attendance doesn’t guarantee certification. Participation and skill demonstration required. Sierra Rescue International Wilderness First Responder Certification is valid for 3 years. American CPR Training CPR/AED is valid for 2 years. Includes adult, child, and infant. Sierra Rescue International Wildness First Responder skills and techniques are according to practice guidelines established by the Wilderness Medical Society as outlined in the Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines. Note: Once you have registered for a course, we’ll send you a confirmation email and a course details pack.
